Thomas R. Young, III

Chairman

Mr. Young is a native of Spartanburg, SC.  He attended the Spartanburg Day School, and after graduating in 1970 went on to the Citadel earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Business in 1974.  Mr. Young’s professional career began in 1974 when he joined Young Office Supply Company to work in the warehouse, and later in outside sales.  He became Vice President of the company in 1983 and was promoted to President in 1988.  Currently, he is President of the parent company Young Holding and Young Office Environments and employs 45 people with sales in excess of $20 million dollars each year.  Mr. Young’s business involvement includes Independent Stationers, an office products dealer network of 450 independent dealers nationwide, where he served as a Board member and then as Chairman from 1988 to 1989. He also served on the Steelcase Dealer Advisory Council from 1993 to 1997, and was the Lt. Governor of the National Office Products Association for South Carolina from 1989 to 1990.  Mr. Young also served as President of the Carolinas Office Products Association from 1988 to 1989.  As a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mr. Young has been a Deacon, and is currently an Elder.  He has served on the Finance Committee as Chairman and is a former Sunday school teacher and basketball coach.

As a dedicated citizen of his community, Mr. Young has served Spartanburg in many ways.  Presently, he sits on the Board of the Piedmont Club, Spartanburg Regional Foundation and Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina.  He also serves as Chairman of the Carolina Piedmont Foundation and was previously Chairman of the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce, and Mountainview Nursing Home.  He has also served on the Board of the YMCA of Spartanburg, Spartanburg Boys Home, American Cancer Society, Boy Scouts of America, Arts Council of Spartanburg, Spartanburg Country Club, Rotary Club of Spartanburg, and the Spartanburg Citadel Club, where he served as President.

Mr. Young and his wife, Elizabeth Chapman Young, have three children:  Thomas Rudolph Young IV, Bryan Chapman Young and Elizabeth Ann Young. Thomas works at Young Office, and Bryan serves as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. Elizabeth Ann currently attends the University of Mississippi.
