The College Hub of Spartanburg County Board of Directors Established
In a joint effort by The Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce and The Spartanburg County Foundation, and in collaboration with all seven public school districts and our six local colleges and universities, over 200 citizens have been participating in a three year planning process to make Spartanburg County the best educated County in South Carolina. Leaders hope that Spartanburg County will earn a national reputation for our commitment to education, specifically in the achievement of high levels of baccalaureate degree attainment, and national recognition for its ability to develop local talent and to generate and attract investment because of an educated workforce.
As a result of this strategic planning process, one of the critical action steps is to establish The College Hub of Spartanburg County whose mission is to lead and support educational achievement at all ages, resulting in 40% baccalaureate degree attainment by 2030. A Board of Directors has been formed and their work began June 30, 2010 to continue planning for the establishment of The College Hub of Spartanburg County which will assist our citizens in increasing their degree attainment by providing educational resources and information. In their June 30th meeting, they elected the following officers: Bill Cobb, Chairman, Clarence Batts, Vice Chairman, Benjamin Snoddy, Secretary and Susu Johnson, Treasurer. The Board consists of ten distinct individuals committed to improving the educational attainment of our citizens and creating a dynamic and educated workforce to meet the needs of the 21st century.
